President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has implemented measures to assist long-serving employees within the tourism sector by designating 300 apartments as part of the Gedhoruveriya social housing initiative. This initiative is geared towards providing housing options for individuals who have committed 15 years of their careers to the tourism industry.
Akram Kamaluddin, the Minister of State for Housing, verified this allocation, emphasizing that it constitutes a component of the second phase of the Gedhoruveriya program, which commenced accepting applications for 6,000 apartments on Sunday. He also announced that the official regulations governing this allocation would be formally published in the government gazette.
The Tourism Employees Association of Maldives (TEAM), which represents resort employees, had been advocating for the inclusion of tourism workers within the ambit of the social housing scheme.
