The newly established Mental Health Center had 395 patients come in to receive services within the first month of operation, says IGMH.
The Mental Health center offers psychotherapy treatments, consultation,counseling and admission services. However, due to shortage of doctors and high demand, patients sometimes have to wait 2-3 weeks before they can get help.
In the recent years, mental health problems have become very common in Maldives. This is proved by the fact that over 2500 patients were treated from IGMH in the last six months alone. Due to this, the President included the opening of a Mental Health Center as part of his first 100 day pledges.
