Madivaru Airport project has been handed to Kuredu Holdings.
An initial signing ceremony took place yesterday at the underwater restaurant in Hurawalhi Maldives. From Kuredu Holdings, Champa Mohamed Moosa signed the agreement while the Tourism Minister Mohamed Zameer signed on behalf of the Government.
A domestic airport is planned to be built on the Lh. Madivaru along with a runway of 1.2km. This is an investment worth more than USD 8 Million. The airport will be operational within one year and it was noted by the Tourism Minister that, more developments will be brought to the airport in the upcoming years.
Kuredu Holdings is also planning to build a city hotel on the island. This will create more job opportunities and increase the tourism rate in Lh. Atoll.
Lh. Madivaru was previously used as a base for military training. There are 4 inhabited islands in the Lh. Atoll while there are more than 5 resorts operating. More resorts are planned to be opened in the upcoming years.
