Government revenue from import duty payments has decreased by 4% according to the statistics released by the Maldives Customs Services. In 2018, MVR 277 million was generated as import duty revenue where else MVR 267 million was generated in the month of March 2019.
Import goods have also been decreased by 9% whereas export goods increased by 39%. MVR 41.1 billion worth goods were imported in March 2019 whereas MVR 4.5 Billion worth was imported in March 2018. Most number of goods were imported to Maldives from Singapore, UAE, China, and India. Ireland was also included because an MVR 345 million worth aircraft was imported from there.
In 2018, MVR 246 million goods were exported, increasing the load to MVR 341 million in March. Thailand, Germany, France, America, and UK are the countries to where the most number of goods were exported to from Maldives.
