An increase of 2% has been observed in the flight movements from international airlines to Maldives in the year 2018 as per the annual report by Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
As per the report, the year 2018 saw over 400 additional flight arrivals. The main factor resulting for this hike is the increase of travel frequency of already operating airlines such as China Eastern Airlines, Silk Air, Emirates and AirAsia Thailand.
Hong Kong Airlines, IndiGo, Air Asia X, GoAir and Oman Air introduced operations to Maldives in the year 2018. This increase of international airlines have also contributed to growth of tourist arrivals to Maldives, with over 1.4 million tourists in throughout 2018. The report also stressed that Maldives have attracted an adequate number of customers customer in relation to the flourishing global tourism market.
