Desalination Plants to be Built in 5 Islands Under Chinese Aid

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has assigned the development of desalination plants with the use of renewable energy resources, in 5 islands across the Maldives. This project was rewarded to Jiangsu Fenghai New Energy Seawater Desalination Development Co., Ltd, under the aid of the Chinese government.

The islands chosen for the desalination plants include, K. Kaashidhoo, R. Alifushi, Ga. Dhaandhoo, Lh. Olhuvelifushi and Ha.Kelaa.

According to the Ministry, this project will commence shortly and shall be concluded in a duration of 12 months. The value of this project is 82.27 million yuan.

This project is aimed at developing facilities for the purification of saltwater through the desalination process. The materials required for the desalination plant and its installation will be carried out by Jiangsu Fenghai New Energy Seawater Desalination Development Co., Ltd, under the aid of the Chinese government.

On behalf of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, the contract was signed by Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Mohamed Aslam, while ambassador of Maldives from China, Xian Li Xiang signed the contract of behalf of the Chinese government.
