Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has revealed that the authority collected MVR 994.12 million in revenue during the month of February 2021. Compared to the same period last year, this represents a 30.9 percent decrease.
According to MIRA, the decrease can be attributed to the effects of the prevalent Covid-19 situation. Due to the halt in tourism and economic activity, revenue from green tax, BPT and airport tax suffered a blow.
However, now that the tourism industry is showing signs of recovery, the revenue collected by MIRA in February this year is higher than expected. MIRA states that this is because of the increase in GST, green tax, tourism land rent, GGST and airport tac.
The revenue collected by MIRA in February 2021 includes USD 41.71 million.
