The government unveiled the ‘oneGov’ platform, marking a significant step in the Maldives’ efforts to establish a fully digital government. The event, held at Sultan Park and attended by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem, showcased the platform’s capabilities in integrating government services through a modern digital interface, facilitating seamless interactions between citizens and the government.
President Solih emphasised the importance of the oneGov platform in enabling citizens to remotely access government services using a citizen-centric approach. He further stated that, as a geographically isolated island nation, oneGov is a crucial tool for the Maldives to combat climate change and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The oneGov platform aims to eliminate the need for inter-island travel to access services at government offices and institutions. It also addresses issues related to information availability and eliminates the inconvenience of printing forms for service applications.
President Solih stated that the platform’s availability of digital government services round the clock would contribute to combating corruption, reducing paper consumption, and promoting environmental and economic growth.
Access to the oneGov platform is facilitated through the National Digital Identity Service called ‘efaas.’ Initially, the platform integrates services from six government offices and institutions, with plans for continued expansion as more government services are added.
Additionally, three contact centres have been established across the country to provide assistance to the public, both through in-person visits and online consultations.
The platform’s user-friendly interface and accessibility are expected to bring time and cost savings, as well as improved efficiency in accessing government services.
