According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, India has emerged as the primary tourist market for the Maldives, displacing Russia from its previous position.
The data indicates that the Maldives received 205,278 visitors from India this year, constituting 11.2 per cent of the total tourist arrivals. This change has moved Russia to the second position, with 203,539 tourist arrivals, representing 11.1 per cent of the total.
This year, India has once again surpassed Russia as the primary tourist market for the Maldives, replicating the earlier occurrence in April when arrivals from India reached 17,577, outpacing Russia’s 16,979 arrivals.
This year, the previous administration had set a target of 1.9 million tourist arrivals. Currently, the Maldives has recorded 1,834,759 tourist arrivals, approaching but still needs to meet the set target with a few days remaining in the year.
