The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has officially unveiled plans for the “Dhiveheenge Ufehdhuntherikamuge Maurazu” (Maldives Expo 2025), which will run from May 23rd to 31st, 2025, in Hulhumale.
In a press release on X yesterday, the Ministry stated that the event is open to proposals from 81 categories across the Creative Economic District, Digital and Innovative District, Entertainment District, and Market Place District. These districts aim to cultivate an environment where creativity intersects with business, offering a platform for innovators and entrepreneurs to connect with potential partners, investors, and customers.
Applications are open to private individuals, companies, businesses, islands, cities, educational institutions, and differently-abled individuals. The Ministry has also invited applications from international participants in a bid to integrate innovation districts from other countries and promote cross-border collaboration and knowledge exchange.
In a move to encourage innovation, arrangements have been made to offer research grant funding to participants, according to the press release.
The application deadline and detailed participation guidelines will be announced shortly, said the ministry.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has assigned the expo management to the Business Center Corporation (BCC).
President Muizzu and the ministers’ council have also made key decisions to ensure the expo’s sustainability as an annual event. The initiative is expected to bolster the Maldives’ economic growth by showcasing the potential of diverse industries and fostering innovation and collaboration among businesses.
