Fuvahmulah City Council has announced its decision to lease land from the city’s harbour area for tourism-related projects, inviting interested parties to submit their proposals. This initiative aims to further develop the island’s growing tourism sector, which has seen an increase in activity in recent years.
According to the council, land designated for tourism use will be leased through the sale of bid documents, which are priced at USD 100 each. Bidding is open to all interested parties, with proposals being accepted from today until 13:00 hrs on 11th September.
Interested parties are requested to mail the completed bid documents to the Procurement Unit of the council at procurement@fuvahmulah.gov.mv. The submission should also include the details of the bidder, such as the company name and address, phone number, and email address.
Fuvahmulah, known for its unique natural beauty and diverse marine life, has become a popular destination for tourists, particularly divers. The city is currently home to around 10 diving schools, catering to both beginners and experienced divers. Additionally, the harbour area regularly welcomes safari boats that stop by on diving excursions, highlighting the city’s potential as a hub for tourism activities.
The council’s decision to lease land in the harbour area illustrates its commitment to enhancing Fuvahmulah’s appeal as a tourist destination. With the right investment and development, the new tourism projects could bring significant benefits to the local economy, providing job opportunities and promoting sustainable tourism practices.
The bidding process is expected to attract a range of proposals from local and international investors keen to capitalise on Fuvahmulah’s unique offerings. The council’s move aligns with the broader goal of diversifying the tourism industry in the Maldives, beyond the traditional resort model, by encouraging development in inhabited islands.
As the deadline approaches, interested parties are encouraged to secure the necessary bid documents and submit their proposals promptly.
