Dhiraagu Awards Winners of Maldives Road Race 2024 and Supports Child Protection Initiatives

Dhiraagu celebrated the achievements of participants in the 2024 Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) with a prize-giving ceremony recognising top performers across multiple race categories. The event, held at Central Park Hulhumale’ on 25 October, brought together over 4,400 runners from 41 countries, including students from 28 schools, marking the 15th edition of the country’s largest annual run.

In the 21.1K category, champions were awarded MVR 25,000, with MVR 15,000 and MVR 10,000 going to runners-up and second runners-up, respectively. Winners of the 10K, 5K Open, and 5K Office/Resort categories received MVR 10,000, with corresponding prizes for those finishing in second and third places. School category winners were awarded gift vouchers, valued at MVR 5,000 for first place, MVR 3,000 for runners-up, and MVR 1,000 for second runners-up. Dhiraagu also honoured participants aged 45 and above who excelled in the 21.1K and 10K events.

Dhiraagu’s CEO, Ismail Rasheed, extended congratulations to all participants, noting the race’s significance for both seasoned and casual runners within the local community and among international attendees. Rasheed emphasised that the event also plays a vital role in supporting Dhiraagu’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, particularly in the area of child protection, and thanked participants for their contributions to this cause.

A total of MVR 680,850 was awarded to 12 NGOs endorsed by the DMRR, including MVR 200,000 donated by Dhiraagu to the top five NGOs nominated by runners. Proceeds from runner registrations and unique bib number sales were distributed to support these NGOs’ child protection initiatives. The top five NGOs each received MVR 80,071, while the remaining seven were awarded MVR 40,071 each, providing crucial support for their activities.

Reflecting its growing international profile, the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race remains the only event in the Maldives listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running calendar, with a World Athletics-certified route. Dhiraagu announced that next year’s race is scheduled for 24 October 2025, promising another engaging event for the local and international running community.
