A key aspect of the government’s plan is the introduction of trademark and brand protection laws to safeguard local products, inventions, and businesses. This initiative is expected to provide greater security for entrepreneurs, allowing them to develop and expand their businesses without the risk of intellectual property infringement. Additionally, the framework will include measures to support online businesses, addressing challenges that have previously limited their growth.

Opportunities for Small Businesses

With a renewed focus on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, the government aims to make 2025 a year of opportunity for small businesses. The new policies are expected to increase market access, provide legal certainty, and create a more structured business environment for emerging enterprises.

The Business Centre Corporation (BCC), operating under the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, will lead the Maldives Expo 2025. The event will serve as a platform for artists, businesses, and innovators, encouraging collaboration and skill development. The expo is set to facilitate new partnerships and investment opportunities, further strengthening the role of small businesses in the country’s economic landscape.
