The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has announced that a special Operation Kurangi event will take place today for migrant workers in the North Harbour area, local markets, and atoll shops.
The event is set to be held near The Shot Harbour Restaurant in North Harbour from 14:00 to 22:00, with employers encouraged to facilitate the participation of foreign workers in the area.
Operation Kurangi is the first phase of the government’s three-year plan to address issues related to the migrant population. Last month, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan revealed that the biodata of 1,455 migrant workers had been collected from the Greater Malé Area under the initiative.
The programme builds on earlier efforts, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stating last November that data had been gathered for 10,000 migrant workers. In the two months that followed, an additional 15,000 records were collected, reflecting the government’s continued efforts to regulate and document the migrant workforce.
