Aasandha Expands Coverage to Thailand and UAE

Aasandha has officially commenced offering medical coverage for procedures conducted in Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Agreements have been signed with three hospitals: Burjeel Medical City (BMC) in Abu Dhabi, and World Medical Hospital and Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok.

According to Aasandha, coverage in the UAE is currently limited to kidney transplants. This restriction aligns with a provision by the UAE Health Council that allows Muslim patients, including Maldivians, to utilise distant donors who may not be first-degree relatives.

For Thailand, the service prioritises individuals seeking treatment for long-term illnesses. These arrangements will follow the existing referral system currently used for medical trips to India and Sri Lanka.

Under Aasandha’s policies, eligible cases receive coverage for medical expenses, return tickets, food, and accommodation. Additionally, for patients travelling to the UAE for kidney transplants, tickets and accommodation for the donor will also be provided.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the extension of Aasandha’s coverage to Thailand and the UAE earlier this year. This expansion brings the number of foreign hospitals in the Aasandha network to 57, with services currently available at 49 hospitals in India and eight in Sri Lanka.
