Abdulla Ghiyas Appointed Chairperson of MMPRC

Abdulla Ghiyas, the president of the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). The appointment, which took place on Thursday, sees Ghiyas succeed Ayesha Nurain Janah, who resigned from the position on 21st May.

Bringing over 20 years of experience in the tourism sector, Ghiyas is expected to leverage his extensive expertise to advance the Maldives’ tourism industry. His appointment signals a strategic move to enhance the nation’s tourism board and promotional activities, addressing key challenges and opportunities within the sector.

One of the primary challenges identified by Ghiyas is creating sufficient demand to match the existing supply in the tourism industry. The MMPRC, under his leadership, plans to implement customised promotional activities tailored to different markets.

Additionally, there are plans to boost tourist arrivals from India, which had been the top source market for the Maldives following the COVID-19 pandemic but saw a decline due to a diplomatic row.

Ghiyas’s appointment is anticipated to revitalise the Maldives’ tourism sector, reinforcing its position as a leading global travel destination.
