Suhail Ahmed, Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), has revealed that an additional 130 hectares of land will be reclaimed for the Thilafushi masterplan project.
While speaking on a programme on local news channel RaajjeTV, Suhail stated that after the merger between Greater Male’ Industrial Zone Limited (GMIZ) and HDC, HDC took on GMIZ’s responsibilities as well. With that, Suhail stated that Thilafushi’s masterplan is now complete.
While 110 hectares of land have already been reclaimed in Thilafushi, Suhail added that work to reclaim a further 130 hectares has already begun.
He detailed that 30 hectares is to be reclaimed within six months for industrial work, while the remaining 100 hectares is to be completed within one and a half years.
The Thilafushi masterplan project is in line with the government’s aim to transfer most of the industrial work being done in Male’ to Thilafushi.
