Addu City Council has formalised an agreement with Business Center Corporation (BCC) to develop a garment factory in the city. The agreement was signed on Sunday by Mayor Mohamed Shuau on behalf of Addu City and BCC Deputy Managing Director Samih Adam.

This initiative aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s broader vision to upscale tailoring and associated activities to an industrial level across the Maldives. The establishment of the garment factory aims to provide a facility conducive for the business activities of local small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and individuals.

Led by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, this project is expected to bring significant economic benefits to Addu City and the Maldives as a whole. The garment factory will not only create job opportunities but also enhance the local economy by fostering the growth of SMEs engaged in tailoring and garment production.

BCC envisions that this project will serve as a model for similar small-scale activities to be upscaled nationwide, contributing to the industrial development of the Maldives. This initiative reflects a strategic effort to diversify the local economy and promote sustainable industrial growth.

The partnership between Addu City Council and BCC marks a milestone in the economic development agenda of the Maldives, supporting local businesses and encouraging industrialisation at the grassroots level.
