Ministry of Economic Development has banned agencies from bringing in new Bangladeshi workers for one year.
The announcement was made by Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail.
Speaking at the press conference, the Minister said that they will not be issuing permits for unskilled Bangladeshi workers for one year.
Fayyaz stated that they have set a quota for foreign unskilled workers in the Maldives, with each country receiving a quota of 150,000.
He also stated that there are already 150,000 Bangladeshi laborers in the country, out of which 50,000 are illegals.
