The Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has initiated the application process for the rowhouses currently being constructed in HA. Dhihdhoo and GA. Villingili.
The government has announced that individuals can apply for these rowhouses on both islands until October 7. To streamline the application process and eliminate the need for physical queues, the planning ministry has introduced the Gedhoruveriya Portal, an online platform where applicants can log in and complete the application form.
In Dhihdhoo, a total of 75 rowhouses are designated for development, with 72 reserved for island residents and two set aside for applicants from other islands interested in housing within Dhihdhoo. On the other hand, the 50 rowhouses in Villingili are exclusively reserved for island residents.
These housing projects are part of the Gedhoruveriya Housing Scheme, and contracts were awarded to respective contractors in 2022. The contract for the Dhihdhoo project was awarded to SJ Construction Private Limited for USD 7.8 million in August, while the Villingili housing project was contracted to Donbez Private Limited for USD 3.1 million in June. Each rowhouse on both islands covers an area of 700 square feet and consists of two stories, featuring three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a sitting room, a kitchen, and a living room.
The government has also issued guidelines for the allocation of rowhouses in Dhihdhoo and Villingili, and the application form can also be accessed through the portal.
