The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives) has officially concluded its inaugural Council Election on 10th July 2024. This event marks a significant milestone for the accountancy profession in the Maldives, demonstrating the Institute’s commitment to fostering transparency, accountability, and professional excellence within the industry.
Established on 8th September 2020 following the ratification of the Maldives Chartered Accountants Act (13/2020) by the President, CA Maldives’ council is comprised of nine members. Among these, the Auditor General, Commissioner General of Taxation, and Accountant General serve as ex-officio members.
Pursuant to Section 18 of the Act, the election saw the following positions filled:
• President of the Institute
• Vice-President
• Four General Council Members
According to the Chartered Accountants Act (13/2020), a person qualified to become a council member of the Institute must be a citizen of the Maldives and a fellow member of the Institute. The election saw a vibrant competition with 14 candidates vying for these esteemed positions, showcasing the dynamic and competitive spirit within the accounting community. The election recorded an impressive 93% voter turnout, indicating significant member participation and engagement.
CA Maldives emphasised its dedication to the professional growth of its members and the integrity of the accounting profession. The election prioritised the highest standards of security and transparency throughout the voting process.
This successful election marks a new chapter for CA Maldives, reinforcing its role as a pillar of professional standards and ethical practices in the Maldivian accounting landscape.
