Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) is now able to clear a cargo ship within 5 days, as per the Managing Director, Mr. Shahid Ali. This change was brought about mainly due to the clearance of empty containers from the area and repairing of vehicles used in the process according to Mr. Shahid.
Cargo importers have also observed the increase in the the rate at which the cargo is now being cleared. However, the number of containers imported are now less compared to the number of containers imported last year. This id due to the fact that some importers who used to import 1000 containers have reduced the amount to 700 due to the condition of the harbor.
MPL announced that they are working on increasing the rate at which the cargo was being cleared on October 2018 and to repair the vehicles and develop the roads around the harbor. In addition to this, MPL had also stated that they have decided on rearranging the harbor area in a way which would make it more spacious.
