Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, currently in China accompanying Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef on an official visit for the ‘China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation,’ has reported that the Chinese government has committed to augmenting flights to the Maldives and expanding developmental projects.
In a social media post on X, Minister Saeed stated that the assurance from the Chinese government encompasses increased flights and heightened engagement in developmental projects and investments in the Maldives. The minister expressed optimism: “A positive change as a result; hopeful days.”

China has been a significant developmental partner for the Maldives, particularly during the first administration of the PPM-PNC coalition. Notable projects, such as the Sinamale’ bridge project and the development of Hiyaa flats in Hulhumale’ Phase II, were carried out during this period.
