Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has stated that last month’s overtime (OT) of civil servants will be included in the April month salary.
The government offices have been temporarily shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and this has caused a delay in the calculation in March months OT. As it takes more time to process each employee’s overtime. Due to this last month salary sheets were sent to finance ministry excluding the OT.
Due to the pandemic, a 5.7% downfall in the economy is predicted. The government has decided to cut down 20% of the salary of those in political posts, to minimize government expenditures.
Minister has also stated that salaries of state-owned enterprises will be reviewed as well to minimize government expenditures.
The Maldives has reported 19 cases of the virus with no fatalities so far.
