The Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure has prohibited the import of certain building materials without proper permissions on Friday last week.

The Ministry reported that six different construction materials will require permission prior to import, creation, and construction.

They further stated that materials imported and created without proper permission will not be allowed to undergo testing. This is to ensure that materials are of good quality when used in construction.

The materials that require permission include cement, all grades of stone for concrete, all types of sand for concrete, structural metal, all grades of ready-mix concrete, and all stone and brick used for construction.

Permission will be granted to all registered under the national building act.

The Ministry stated that Maldives Customs Service would seize all items imported without permission.
