Covid-19 Related State Expenditure Reaches MVR 3 Billion!

State expenditure related to the Covid-19 pandemic has reached MVR 3 billion.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Finance, as of 11th February 2021, the state has spent MVR 1.48 billion on the health sector and MVR 1.53 billion on the economy in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The highest proportion of health related expenditure was spent by the National Disaster Management Authority (MVR 783.8 million) and the Ministry of Health (MVR 356.9 million). The expenditure by these two government bodies were primarily to do with efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and procuring goods to provide essential health services in relation to the pandemic.

The most significant economic expenditure related to the pandemic was the Covid-19 Recovery Loan Scheme. About MVR 1.15 billion has been spent on the scheme thus far.
