Dhiraagu has awarded prizes to Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2023 winners at a special ceremony held at Dhiraagu Head Office last night. During the ceremony, a special appreciation was also given to the pacers who contributed to making Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race 2023 a success.
At the ceremony, 39 prizes were awarded to 31 winners of this year’s run. This included 14 local runners, 5 international participants and 12 students from 5 categories – Half Marathon, 10K, 5K Open, 5K School – Above 13 and 5K – School Under 13.
Champions of the Half Marathon category were awarded MVR 25,000 as a cash prize with MVR 15,000 for the runner-ups and MVR 10,000 for 2nd runner-ups, while 10K and 5K Open categories’ champions received MVR 10,000 with MVR 8,000 for the runner-ups and MVR 6,000 for the 2nd runner-ups. Winners of the 5K School categories were special gift vouchers with MVR 5,000 gift vouchers for the champions, MVR 3,000 for runner-ups, and MVR 1,000 for second runner-ups. The total value of all the prizes for the overall and local categories amounts to around MVR 400,000.
Dhiraagu’s CEO & MD, Ismail Rasheed, spoke at the ceremony, congratulated all the winners and commended them for their exceptional performance. He also remarked how Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is not just a much look-forwarded event for the international and local running community but also a key fundraising event, with every step by the runners counting towards the social cause of protecting children – one of the company’s key CSR focus areas.
Dhiraagu also awarded MVR 635,000 to the 12 DMRR-endorsed NGOs. This included the total MVR 200,000 Dhiraagu donated to the top five NGOs nominated by the runners. Proceeds from the registration and nice bib number sales were also awarded to all 12 partner NGOs to help kickstart their activities to help protect children. Each of the top 5 NGOs received MVR 76,250, while the remaining 7 NGOs received MVR 36,250 each.
This year’s DMRR – the largest annual run in the Maldives – was held on 27 October 2023 at Central Park, Hulhumale’ with over 4000 registered participants. Runners from 27 nationalities participated in this run, as well as students from 31 schools, including 7 schools from outside Male’.
During the ceremony, Dhiraagu also announced the date for next year’s Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race as 25 October 2024.
Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is the first and only international run held in the Maldives listed in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running calendar with a World Athletics-certified race route.
