Dhiraagu Commemorates World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2024

Dhiraagu marked World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2024 with a significant event at the Maldives National University. This celebration, aimed at fostering digital innovation and sustainable development, brought together key industry leaders, Dhiraagu management, and university students.

The event saw the presence of Mr Ilyas Ahmed, Chief Executive of the Communication Authority of Maldives (CAM), alongside Dhiraagu’s CEO and Managing Director, Mr Ismail Rasheed. Both leaders emphasised the importance of digital tools in empowering the next generation and driving innovation.

In his address, Mr Ismail Rasheed reaffirmed Dhiraagu’s dedication to leveraging digital innovation for societal and environmental benefit. “We are committed to harnessing the power of digital innovation to create a positive impact on society and the environment. We will continue empowering communities with enhanced digital infrastructure, platforms, and tools for a sustainable digital economy,” he stated.

Mr Ilyas Ahmed encouraged young people to be bold and forward-thinking, urging them to contribute their ideas towards achieving a sustainable future. He highlighted the crucial role of youth in the digital transformation journey.

A highlight of the event was a panel discussion on the theme ‘Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development’. Moderated by Aishath Zara Nizar, Data Scientist at Dhiraagu, the panel included Ismail Faiz, Head of Cybersecurity at Dhiraagu; Aishath Nayasheen Ahmed, Head of Solutions Mapping at UNDP Maldives; and Hawwa Reena, Legal Counsel and Sustainability Manager at Dhiraagu.

The panellists provided insights from their respective fields, illustrating the vital role of digital innovation in sustainable development. They underscored the importance of collaboration between governments, businesses, and communities in creating an ecosystem that fosters innovation and drives sustainability. They also discussed how responsible and inclusive use of digital technologies can address pressing global challenges and contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future.

On this occasion, Dhiraagu reiterated its commitment to digital innovation as a key driver of sustainable development, pledging to continue its efforts in enhancing digital infrastructure and tools for the benefit of all.
