The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2024 is gearing up to be the largest running event in the Maldives once again. Scheduled to take place on 25th October 2024 at Central Park, Hulhumalé, this year marks the 15th edition of the much-anticipated event. Interested participants must register by 10th September 2024 to secure their place in the race.
Registration for the DMRR 2024 is available through the official website, www.dmrr.mv, and will close at 23:59 hrs on Tuesday, 10th September. This year, a new category has been introduced: the Office & Resort 5K Team Event. In this category, teams of four from resorts, government entities, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and the private sector can compete to represent their organisations. Teams may consist of all-male, all-female, or mixed members.
Alongside the new category, registrations are open for other popular events, including the Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K Open categories, as well as the 5K race for schools for participants above 13 years old.
In line with tradition, the DMRR 2024 is dedicated to supporting child protection, a significant focus area of Dhiraagu’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. The event provides a platform for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in child protection to raise awareness and funds. Dhiraagu will distribute five grants totaling MVR 200,000 to the top five endorsed NGOs, as nominated by participants during registration, to help them launch their planned activities. Furthermore, MVR 100 from each participant’s registration fee, along with all proceeds from special bib number sales, will be equally shared among the endorsed partner NGOs. Last year, the total amount awarded to the partner NGOs reached MVR 635,000.
Winners in various race categories will be competing for a total prize pool of MVR 256,000, ensuring the stakes are high for all runners. The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is also recognised internationally, being the first and only event of its kind in the Maldives listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running calendar, with a World Athletics-certified race route.
As the registration deadline approaches, participants are encouraged to sign up soon to join what promises to be another exhilarating edition of the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race, combining the spirit of competition with the cause of child protection.
