First-ever Eco Center in the Maldives opened in B. Maalhos.
The Eco Center was inaugurated by the speaker of the parliament and former president Mohamed Nasheed.
Under the “Namoonaa Baa Atoll” movement organized by Soneva Fushi, Common Seas, Maalhos, Dharavandhoo and Kihaadhoo islands in Baa Atoll this is the first-ever Eco-Center to be opened in a habited island.
Speaking at the inauguration, Nasheed pointed out that one of the main challenges faced by islands is the responsible management of waste. Furthermore, he added that the success of Maalhos is due to the concern and support of the council in the matter and it is possible for every other island as well.
The ceremony was also attended by the owner of Soneva Fushi, Sonu Shivdasani, council members and many residents of Maalhos.
Sonu praises the people of Maalhos in making the movement a success. He highlights that with the installation of a water plant, the use of plastic bottles has also significantly decreased.
Sonu promises that his efforts to make Maalhos, Dharavandhoo and Kihaadhoo islands will continue.
