Mohamed Rishwan, a former deputy commissioner of police, has been appointed as the new managing director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL). The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) confirmed his appointment on Wednesday.
Rishwan brings experience from both military and law enforcement backgrounds, having served in the Maldives Police Service until his retirement in 2011, when he held the rank of deputy commissioner. Following his departure, he pursued other professional roles, including serving as the deputy CEO of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in 2015.
He replaces Mohamed Wajeeh, who was dismissed from the position on February 2. Wajeeh had been appointed to lead MPL on November 28, 2023.
With his appointment, Rishwan is expected to oversee MPL’s operations and strategic direction as the company continues to manage and develop the country’s key port infrastructure.
