The Maldives recently joined over one billion people worldwide in celebrating Global Wellness Day 2024. Held on Saturday, June 8th, Global Wellness Day is a not-for-profit social project promoting a healthier and more fulfilling life. The event encourages individuals and communities to focus on well-being, inner peace, and breaking free from unhealthy habits and stressors.
Julia, the newly appointed Global Wellness Day ambassador for the Maldives, led this year’s celebrations. She expressed her delight at the widespread participation and diverse activities hosted across the islands. “It was my first year as the Global Wellness Day ambassador for the Maldives, and I was thrilled to see so many resorts taking part,” said Julia.
Hulhumalé City saw particularly memorable celebrations, with local supporters contributing their time and energy to make the day special. Julia emphasised the importance of making wellness accessible to everyone and highlighted the potential for Global Wellness Day to inspire lasting change.
The day’s events included arts and crafts for children using recycled materials, ocean-inspired activities, and a mindful breathing workshop. Participants learned new breathing techniques and experienced the present moment together. Professionals from various wellness fields shared their expertise and personal missions, leaving a lasting impact on attendees.
“As children are our future, their wellness is our biggest concern,” Julia stated. “We created long-lasting, positive experiences based on natural health and happiness, from the green apples we handed out to the organic sparkling tea we used for a communal celebration.”
“Wellness is about taking small steps every day, but one day can change your whole life,” Julia noted. “Our activities, featuring the theme #MagentaNature, were designed to inspire new and healthier habits, provide a moment to reflect on ourselves and our world, and unite us as part of our wider community.”
Looking ahead, Julia and her team are planning more wellness activities in the lead-up to Global Wellness Day 2025. She said the aim is to continue fostering a culture of health and happiness in the Maldives, making wellness an integral part of everyday life.
