Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has stated that the government is planning to reduce the level of imports to the country in the future.
In a press conference, Minister has revealed that the government has selected 17 agricultural products to produce in Maldives.
He further added that the government has chosen 44 islands to advance the farming of these products.
He also highlighted that in the MOU with the islands a specific price and quota will be stated. And these products will be sold to resorts as well.
Minister has revealed that the government was already discussing to develop the agriculture industry in the Maldives for the past 6 months. And due to the spread of COVID-19, they have preponed agricultural programs planned for the end of this year.
