The Maldivian government has released MVR 56 million in compensation payments as of February 22nd.
This information comes from the Ministry of Finance’s Weekly Fiscal Development Report and represents a portion of the MVR 101 million allocated in this year’s state budget.
Last year, the budget also designated MVR 101 million for compensation. However, the Ministry of Finance reports that the total compensation paid out by the end of the year reached a significantly higher amount of MVR 557 million.
The Ministry of Finance has not specified the individuals or entities who received these compensation payments. The reason for the substantial increase in last year’s compensation spending could warrant further investigation.
