The ‘Hour of Code at Women in Tech’ by Women in Tech Maldives in partnership with Dhiraagu and endorsed by the Ministry of Education is now open for registration. ‘Hour of Code’ is an annual event held by Code.org to mark the International Computer Science Week, celebrated worldwide every year in December.
The event aims to reach over 2000 students across Maldives simultaneously, covering all atolls across Maldives. The participants will be grouped according to different age groups and facilitators will be organising multiple activities to inspire participants on computer science and coding, bringing the spotlight on the importance of Computer Science education.
The main event will be held online this year on 24 December 2022. Interested participants can register for the programme through this link: https://www.womenintechmv.org/hourofcode. Individuals, schools, or institutes can register to participate in the ‘Hour of Code’ programme. Members of Women in Tech Maldives, Dhiraagu and school teachers will be mentoring and guiding the participants throughout the ‘Hour of Code at Women in Tech’.
This programme, first introduced by Code.org, is part of the global movement reaching tens of millions of students in over 180 countries through a one-hour introduction to computer programming in a fun way. Women in Tech Maldives is the international partner of Code.org to organise activities in the Maldives. The event has been successfully conducted across the Maldives in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Leading up to the main ‘Hour of Code at Women in Tech’ event on 24 December 2022, physical sessions have also been conducted in Kalaafaanu School, Imaduddin School, Hiriya School, B. Goidhoo School, R. Hulhudhuffaaru School and Gn. Fuvahmulah School. ‘Hour of Code’ is a great way to introduce students of all ages to coding and spark interest in computer science. Starting to learn computer science at an early age is the foundation for success in every field in the 21st century, which can also increase their creativity and problem-solving abilities and skills.
