Inflation Rate Up by 2.9% – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics has publicized figures indicating 2.9% increase in inflation rates, between January 2016 and January 2017.

The report details some of the goods which had their prices increased up until January this year, and the largest contributor was fuel (5.64% increase) due to a hike in prices in the international market, resulting in a 2.81% increase in the price of electricity. The price of fruits and vegetables have also increased at 3.77% and 5.63% respectively, whilst the prices of food products decreased by 1.37%, dairy products by 0.10% and medicines by 1.01%. The statistics also show a slight increase to rent at 0.06%.

The report also shows a marked increase to Secondary Education, which increased by 6.25%.
