Largest Cargo Vessel of MSS Makes Maiden Call at Male’ Port

The largest vessel ever to fly the Maldivian Flag: MSS Chrome, owned by Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has made its maiden call at the Male’ Port.

MSS Chrome made her maiden call at the Male’ Port on June 7, with 23 crew members and 41,500 tonnes of cargo. The vessel which has the capacity to carry 43,929 tons of cargo is 190 meters long and over 16 meters high.

The vessel was welcomed with a water salute at the port.

MSS Chrome is the second vessel to be registered under MSS. The company bought its first vessel, MSS Galena, last year. The decision made by MSS to operate bulk carriers will provide immense help to the Maldivian economy as it will reduce the cost of the import of construction materials to the Maldives. Acquiring the largest cargo vessel in Maldives will also allow MSS to retain millions of dollars of foreign currency in the Maldives which would otherwise be sent abroad for such shipments.

Maldives State Shipping (MSS) is a shipping and logistics company launched in 2020 offering an extensive international liner shipping service.
