There are certain etiquettes that need to be followed when delivering bad news to the staff.

When delivering the news of a layoff, it’s better to inform them of the news in a personal and private environment. Group layoffs will make employees will less important. Employees need to be explained why they are being laid-off, not in groups but in a one-to-one conversation.

In the conversation with the employee, it is very important to show empathy towards them.

Also, using a pre-recorded message for layoffs in groups is quite insensitive. Avoid using any kind of pre-messaging.

Layoffs might be inevitable during this difficult time, however, employers need to be sensitive and empathetic towards its employees.
