Maldives’ utilities company Fenaka Corporation on Tuesday awarded a mega sewerage system project worth USD53 million (MVR866 million) to a leading Sri Lanka firm.
During a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre in the capital Male, the agreement was signed between and Fenaka and Haycarb to establish sewage systems in 20 islands in 13 different Atolls within 18 months.
Incumbent president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has recently stepped up efforts to launch major infrastructure projects in the Atolls ahead of the presidential elections in September.
With the newest project, the incumbent government in the past five years has launched 83 sewage system projects across the Maldives with 22 completed thus far.
