Maldives Crosses 90% of Projected Tourist Arrivals in 2021 Budget

With more than 923,000 tourist arrivals so far this year, the Maldives has crossed 90 percent of the projected arrivals in this year’s budget. The 2021 goal projected in the year’s budget is 1 million tourist arrivals.

Maldives was one of the first countries to reopen its borders to tourists in July 2020. Currently, 93 percent of resort employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The top source market so far this year is India, with a 23 percent share of the market. Russia is the second largest top source market with a 19.3 percent share of the market. Other top source markets include Germany, USA, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Spain, UK, Kazakhstan and France.

The golden year of tourism in the Maldives is to be celebrated next year as it marks 50 years since the commencement of tourism in this island nation.
