Maldives has recorded a significant rise in both exports and imports in May 2022, compared to the same period last year.
As per the monthly statistics released by Maldives Custom Service, Maldives exported MVR 194 million in commodities during the month of May 2022. This is a 40% increase compared to this period last year.
Major exported commodities include MVR 113 million in frozen skipjack or stripe-bellied bonito, MVR 54 million in skipjack tuna and MVR 15 million in yellowfin tuna.

Top Exporting Countries:
- Thailand: MVR 121 million
- UK: MVR 20 million
- Germany: MVR 18 million
- India: MVR 9 million
- France: MVR 8 million
Meanwhile, Maldives has imported MVR 3.4 billion in commodities during the month of May 2022. This is a 52% increase compared to the same period last year.
Top Importing Countries:
- Oman: MVR 783 million
- India: MVR 650 million
- China: MVR 447 million
- UAE: MVR 426 million
- Singapore: MVR 387 million
Maldives customs service further recorded a revenue of MVR 300 million, last month which is a 26% increase from the same period last year.
