Male’ City Prepares to Embrace “New Normal”

Male’ City Council has begun preparations to get the city ready to embrace the ‘new normal’ after WHO warned that the COVID-19 virus might never go away completely.

Male’ City Council stated that social distancing is the primary strategy used to prevent the spread of COVID-19. To facilitate and guide citizens to commit to social distancing, the Council has started to draw circles on the roads to show acceptable distances to be in queues around markets and stores in the city.

Male’ City Mayor Shifa Mohamed said that the markings were initially drawn outside major outlets on Majeedhee Magu and Sosun Magu but that it will be an ongoing process.

According to Dr. Afzal, avoiding sharing everyday objects, such as mobile phones, will also be another aspect that people will have to get used to in the “new normal”.

Health experts say that social distancing, wearing masks, clean hygiene, and washing hands regularly are all important practices everyone should get into a habit of doing if we are to coexist with COVID-19.
