The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the 2024/25 term on Wednesday, electing a new executive board to steer the organisation’s activities and initiatives.
Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz was re-elected as President, alongside Mohamed Khaleel and Mohamed Shaz, who retained their roles as Vice Presidents. Other key positions were also filled through re-election, including Abdulla Suood as Secretary General, Ibrahim Didi as Treasurer, and Ignaz Mansoor and Ibrahim Nizam as board members. Joining them on the executive board are Ahmed Arshad, Mohamed Mauroof, and Asad Riza, who will contribute to guiding MATATO’s future direction.
Established in 2006, MATATO has been instrumental in promoting Maldivian tourism both locally and internationally. The newly elected executive board is poised to build on the organisation’s achievements by addressing challenges in the rapidly evolving travel and tourism industry. The board aims to strengthen MATATO’s role in representing the interests of travel agents and tour operators while enhancing collaboration with key stakeholders in the sector.
The AGM also served as an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the previous term, evaluate ongoing projects, and set strategic objectives for the coming year. Discussions highlighted the importance of MATATO’s initiatives in promoting the Maldives as a global travel destination and fostering cooperation between industry players to advance the nation’s tourism sector.
