Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has collected 39,601 metric tons (MT) of fish from fishermen as of last week.
According to recent data released by MIFCO, the company saw a 30% increase compared to the same period in 2022, marking a 30% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
The Addu fisheries complex experienced a 68% increase in fish collection. The Kooddoo Fisheries Complex witnessed a 30% increase, whereas the Felivaru Fisheries Complex observed a modest 6% uptick in tuna collection.
The surge in tuna collection has also translated into improved financial compensation for fishermen. MIFCO disbursed a total of MVR 659 million to fishermen so far this year, representing a substantial 33.9% increase compared to the previous year’s payment of MVR 457 million.
