The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Moosa Zameer, has departed for an official visit to the United States of America, scheduled from 24 to 27 June 2024. This visit aims to strengthen the Maldives-US partnership and reaffirm the Maldives’ commitment to multilateralism.
Minister Zameer’s itinerary begins in Washington D.C., where he will engage in high-level meetings with prominent US officials. These meetings include discussions with the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the Administrator of the US Agency for International Development, Samantha Power, alongside other senior members of the US government.
In addition to these crucial governmental meetings, Minister Zameer will participate in an interactive session at the prestigious Council of Foreign Relations. This engagement is expected to foster deeper understanding and cooperation on global issues. He will also take the opportunity to connect with the Maldivian community in Washington D.C., strengthening ties with Maldivians abroad.
Following his engagements in the capital, Minister Zameer will proceed to New York. There, he is scheduled to meet with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Li Junhua. These meetings will further the Maldives’ diplomatic efforts within the UN framework.
Minister Zameer’s agenda in New York also includes discussions with tour operators and travel advisors, aimed at promoting the Maldives as a premier travel destination. Additionally, he will meet with the Maldivian communities residing in New York and New Jersey, reinforcing the government’s commitment to its citizens abroad.
Accompanying Minister Zameer on this official visit are Dr Hala Hameed, Secretary of Bilateral Affairs, and Senior Undersecretary Hassan Hussain Shihab.
