Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid met with the President and the Members of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives on 10th April 2023.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President of the Human Rights Commission Mariyam Muna briefed Minister Shahid on the work undertaken by the Commission over the past three years to improve the human rights situation in the Maldives. Both sides discussed the importance of promoting and protecting human rights at home and agreed to work closely together to effectively address shared interests and goals internationally. Minister Shahid also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the values of human rights and democracy.
Minister Shahid was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Joint Secretary Mariyam Midhfa Naeem, and Chief General Service Officer Mizna Waheed. The President of the Human Rights Commission was accompanied by Vice President Dr. Ahmed Adham Abdulla, and Commissioners Aminath Shifaath Abdul Razzaq, Moomina Waheed, and Samaau Ahmed Najeeb, and Secretary General of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives Aminath Naushan Abdul Muhaimin.
Constituted under Chapter 7 of the Constitution of the Maldives 2008, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives is the first independent and autonomous statutory body in the Maldives. The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives aims to champion human rights by promoting and protecting dignity, diversity and equality within the Maldives.
