MMPRC Hosts Japanese Journalists for Familiarisation Trip to the Maldives

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC / Visit Maldives) is currently hosting a group of prominent journalists from Japan on a familiarisation (FAM) trip to the Maldives. The journalists, representing notable media platforms such as VOGUE Japan Online, CREA WEB, Numero Tokyo.jp, and MyNavi Woman, are in the Maldives from 17th May to 24th May 2024.

During their stay, the journalists experience the luxury and unique offerings of three distinguished properties: Huvafen Fushi, Mövenpick Resort Kuredhivaru, and LUX* South Ari. This trip aims to bolster the Maldives’ presence across multiple digital platforms and promote the country as a safe and desirable holiday destination.

MMPRC is leveraging this FAM trip to enhance brand awareness in the Japanese market. The initiative provides an excellent opportunity for visiting journalists to publish firsthand accounts of the Maldives’ luxury retreats and wellness programmes, thus reaching a wide audience in Japan. By showcasing the various tourism elements available in the Maldives, MMPRC intends to captivate trend-conscious, young, affluent individuals in Japan who aspire to a high-quality lifestyle.

Earlier this year, Visit Maldives received significant recognition at the Marine Diving Awards 2023 in Japan, securing 3rd place in the “Best Area Overseas Division” and 2nd place in the “Best Overseas Destination I Want to Visit for the First Time”. These accolades, voted by divers nationwide in Japan, underscore the Maldives’ appeal as a top travel destination.

Japan currently ranks 13th in market arrivals to the Maldives, with 9,333 arrivals as of April 2024, accounting for a 1.5% market share. MMPRC is committed to maintaining and expanding this presence through targeted marketing strategies and activities.

Throughout the year, MMPRC has conducted various global marketing activities, including fairs, roadshows, familiarisation trips, marketing campaigns, webinars, and interviews. These efforts are part of MMPRC’s dedication to promoting the Maldives as a premier destination worldwide.

The familiarisation trip not only highlights the luxury accommodations and unique experiences available in the Maldives but also reinforces the country’s reputation as a leading holiday destination. MMPRC’s initiatives are set to further solidify the Maldives’ position in the Japanese market and attract more travellers seeking the unparalleled beauty and hospitality of the islands.
