The Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) represented the Maldives at the prestigious ‘2024 Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event’, held in Sanya, Hainan, China, from 4-5 September. Supported by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the event was organised by the Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, TV and Sports of Sanya City in collaboration with the Sanya Tourism Board.
In a press release shared today, MMPRC stated the Maldivian delegation included Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz, Chairperson of MMPRC, and Ibrahim Shiuree, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD). During the Thematic Sharing session, Riyaz discussed “The Maldives Story & Innovative Tourism Marketing for Tropical Cities.” His presentation focused on the Maldives’ unique appeal as a vacation destination and highlighted the marketing strategies employed by MMPRC to promote the country globally.

Meanwhile, MMPRC CEO/MD Shiuree participated as a panellist in the “Insight Sessions: International Tourism Marketing” discussion. He addressed key topics, including the importance of public-private collaboration, upskilling tourism workers, and diversifying the Maldives’ tourism offerings to ensure equitable revenue distribution across the country. During the discussion, Shiuree emphasised the significance of a united approach, stating, “The success of our tourism industry depends on a unified vision between the public and private sector in driving responsible tourism practices and sustainable growth.”
Offering opportunities to explore sustainable development in tropical coastal regions, the event provided a valuable platform for networking and sharing insights with global industry professionals, according to the press release.
The event featured discussions on sustainable tourism, indigenous tourism, global tourism quality, and a business matching session alongside the thematic sessions.
