A delegation of senior officials from Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has met with Coastal Mechanized Sailing Vessel Owner’s Association and perishable vessel operators in Tuticorin, India, ahead of the busy Ramazan season.
In this regard, a successful meeting was held where challenges faced in importing goods to the Maldives, and the areas in which MPL could assist were discussed. This association is an importer of perishable goods to the Maldives. Maldives has a 200-year history from importing goods from the Tuticorin route and 90% of the perishable goods imported to the country are imported from Tuticorin. The main imports include onions, eggs and potatoes.
With the month of Ramazan upcoming, discussions were also held to ensure that supplies will not be disrupted. MPL stated that they aim to provide goods arriving at the port without delay to the customers.
This discussion was attended by Deputy CEO of MPL Ibrahim Abdulla, Assistant General Manager Mohamed Ameez, Assistant General Manager Tholhath Saeed and Assistant General Manager Mohamed Maseeh Abdul Sattar. Two senior officials from Maldives Customs Service also joined the visit.
