President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, accompanied by the First Lady, has embarked on a State Visit to China following an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping. This visit marks President Muizzu’s third international trip since assuming office. Senior Chinese officials greeted the President and the First Lady upon their arrival.
A key highlight of President Muizzu’s itinerary is his participation in the Invest Maldives Forum to be held in Fuzhou. This event is a crucial platform for Dr Muizzu to engage with prominent Chinese investors and business leaders. Discussions are expected to revolve around enhancing social and economic ties between Maldives and China, with a particular emphasis on expanding investment opportunities.
The President’s Office has outlined that the visit will encompass official talks aimed at deepening the multifaceted cooperation between the two nations. The agenda includes the exchange of significant agreements that cover a broad spectrum of areas, including trade relations, technological advancement, and socio-economic development.
President Muizzu’s visit is not just a diplomatic formality but a strategic move to strengthen technical and economic cooperation. His interactions with Chinese businessmen will be particularly significant, given China’s role as a global economic powerhouse and its potential impact on Maldives’ growth and development.
This visit comes on the heels of President Muizzu’s previous international engagements in Türkiye and the UAE, where he attended the COP-28 conference.
